You can always expect the unexpected with Ghana and the same goes for the Ghana sports project. Get involved with amazing local clubs and pass on your passion for sport.  Whether its football, rugby, cricket, basketball, netball, hockey, tennis, martial arts, swimming, athletics, boxing or golf, you can share your passion in Ghana.  

Volunteering as a sports coach can make a real difference to the children in the area.  All coaching volunteers will get a chance to spend some time in the academy, as well as have the opportunity to specialize in different sports across Accra.  The project aims to get as many children participating in physical activity across the city, giving them opportunities not available to them at school.

Experience required for Football coaching internships.

As a volunteer you will be coaching Monday to Friday, for a minimum of 3 hours a day. (Due to the heat, sessions are often held in the morning or afternoon to avoid the midday sun).


  • Accommodation will be shared with other volunteers, making this an extremely sociable experience.
  • Accommodation has single sex rooms and western bathrooms.
  • Accommodation has plenty communal areas
  • The accommodation is walled and there is a guard at the gate at all times.
  • The accommodation is located in Teshi Nungua which is around 20 minutes drive from the centre of Accra and 10 minutes from the sea front. 
  • The accommodation is close to local amenities.


  • 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are provided, seven days a week.
  • Packed lunches are provided each day to take with you.
  • Breakfast and dinner are home-cooked and served in the accommodation at a large dining table.
  • Clean drinking water is provided for you at the accommodation.
  • The food is varied but you will have plenty of opportunities to try out Ghanaian food.

About Ghana

Nearly 30 million people live in Ghana and the primary language is English, although there are tribal dialects. The largest of the tribes is the Ashanti tribe, which is made up of nearly 50% of the population, the Ashanti tribe predominantly speak Twi.

Ghana is a fantastic country to visit all year round due to the constantly warm climate. Visit between October amd March for a cooler, drier visit. Harmattan takes place in December, this is when the warm Saharan winds blow across Western Africa, Ghana is particularly hot and dusty at this time.

Ghana is a popular travel destination for people looking to experience something different and Ghana certainly will not disappoint!
